Therapeutic Approach

Our aim is to walk alongside the individual
and work with him or her through the trauma
and on to recovery

ASSIST therapists always work with evidence-based therapeutic models, proven to be helpful in treating psychological trauma, that is trauma-focussed CBT and EMDR.

However we recognise that every client who visits our service is an individual.

This means that we give time developing a relationship with our service users, finding out about their individual needs and what else is going on in their lives.  We give great weight to Carl Roger’s Core Conditions:
Þ                Empathy
Þ                 Congruence
Þ                 Unconditional Positive Regard

Many people think of CBT as an impersonal, directive and often very brief therapy.  We like to think of the ASSIST model as Person-Centred CBT, the combination of a therapeutic model that has been shown to work and respect and understanding for people as human-beings.
